Peter S. O’Neill is the founder, chairman and principal visionary of O’Neill Enterprises LLC, a privately held developer of residential communities and home builder based in Boise, Idaho. O’Neill, born and raised in Chappaqua, New York, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1959. His first job was as a sales engineer for ALCOA, from 1959 - 1963. He then attended the Stanford University Business School and, upon graduation in 1965, joined Boise Cascade Corporation in Boise, Idaho.

After holding several management positions within Boise Cascade, and rising to senior vice president, O’Neill resigned in 1976 to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. The first of these was the co-founding of the Sandpiper Restaurant in Boise. O’Neill and his partners built the Sandpiper into a chain of five restaurants in Idaho and Oregon, and sold the business in 1985.

In 1979, O’Neill started River Run Development Company, the predecessor of OE LLC. The venture developed River Run, a 120-acre planned residential community along the Boise River. The community is widely regarded as the first residential development in Boise, and one of the first in the country, to be created with as much concern for enhancing the environment as with the homes it sold. River Run received the coveted Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence in 1990. Today it is considered to be one of the premier planned residential communities in the United States.

Throughout his career in Boise, O’Neill has been active in community affairs, having served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committees for a number of community entities, including Fundsy, The Greater Boise Area Chamber of Commerce, the Boise Metro Economic Development Council, The Children’s Home/Warm Springs Center, the Boise Futures Foundation, Bogus Basin, and the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance.
